Scope

Logo, Visual Identity

An AI service for scientists needs a brand that feels precise, not corporate.

Blablador is the Helmholtz Association's LLM inference and evaluation server — a gateway for researchers across Germany's largest scientific organisation to experiment with large language models. Hosted at Forschungszentrum Jülich, it provides access to both open-source models and models developed within the Helmholtz community.

The challenge: give this scientific tool a visual identity that communicates intelligence and precision without feeling cold, corporate, or sci-fi. The name — a German pun on speech and exploration — needed a mark that matched its spirit.

A mark that speaks the language of both science and conversation.

The visual identity plays on the intersection of machine intelligence and human language. A custom wordmark anchors the system — technically crisp but approachable, designed to work across research portals, documentation, and Helmholtz Cloud services.

The colour palette draws from the deep scientific blues of the Helmholtz identity, with accents that signal the forward-looking nature of AI research. Every decision aimed to make the tool feel accessible — a service for researchers, not a black box.

Live across the Helmholtz Cloud, serving researchers.

A complete visual identity system — logo, colour palette, typography, and usage guidelines — deployed across the Blablador web portal, REST API documentation, and Helmholtz Cloud service directory. The mark now represents one of Germany's most significant scientific AI services, accessed by researchers across the entire Helmholtz Association.
